Cloudburst is Unstoppable and so am I!

BY Nancy Janiola IN , , 10 comments

It has been raining for the past two weeks now here on my side of the planet – making me miss my morning jog. Now I’m stuck indoor and with no other choice but to get off my butt and do the old drill even if the sound of the pouring rain outside makes it hard to resist the tempting bed. No I’m talking about my couch actually. It has been a while since I last slept on my bed.

I certainly don’t know when the raining would stop and my muscles would probably get stiff again if I wait till the weather decides to change its course. So off my butt and on to sweating some fats away…

Party season is here before we know it. I can’t be feeling bad over what other people might think of how I look when I know there’s something I can do to help it. Not that I want to look hot and sexy before everyone's eyes but it’s rather about feeling good about myself and nothing else. Or does it make a difference? LOL! When you feel good about yourself, everything follows. I have it proven many times. In fact, it is when I feel good that motivates me to blog as much as I could. ;)

In Pain but I'm Certainly Not Quitting

BY Nancy Janiola IN , , , No comments

Did I actually ask how will my muscles react to that new workout routine I am trying to set for myself recently? Well that’s just downright stupid! Of course I knew I wouldn’t be able to get up the following morning. I’ve been there… not once but many times. You know the feeling as if big boulders are up inside your body – making you immobile or walk funny. Imagine how painful that is? Worst is it could cause you unwanted headaches and fever.

I used to just treat it with alcohol rubbed all over my body before retiring to bed at night but that doesn’t seem to work for me now – leaving me with no choice but to gulp pain pills if I want relieved. But even taking pain reliever can’t guarantee an instant relief- meaning I have to endure the pain for however long it last. Well, it’s been two days. I was hoping I could go on today but even thinking of that simple jumping jack would already make me want to pass out. That’s how bad the pain I feel is as of this writing. I don’t know how much longer do I need to suffer but one thing for certain… I sure won’t quit!

New Workout Routine

BY Nancy Janiola IN , , , 1 comment

I know it sounds a little silly of me saying how I’ve started doing the workout again because this is definitely not the first time that I did say that. After a month or so of enjoying (well not exactly) what I’ve shredded while in a state of depression, I decided to just do it again and guess what…with a new addition this time.

Yesterday, while attempting to organize my hard drive, I found this Jillian Michaels’ 30-day Shred video. I wasn’t sure if I downloaded it myself some time ago or someone did but I watched it anyway, find it useful and so I thought I would try it out. No, I didn’t just thought of trying it out in fact; I went a little giddy to just do it.

And since I really don’t have a full plate on most of my mornings, I thought it would be ideal to start a day with an exercise so this morning I decided to redesign my routine.

Jillian Michaels’ 30-day Shred instructional video is divided into 3 levels (20 minutes for each level). I like how the course is designed to tone the muscles and abs. It’s a slow-paced exercise but the use of hand weights is what makes it challenging. Boy, the steps appeared to be just so simple but no they’re absolutely not! Good thing I still managed to do Billy Blanks’ 60-minute Basic Bootcamp after.

Hmm, let’s see how my muscles will respond to this new routine tomorrow. ;)

Grapefruit Diet - For Real

BY Nancy Janiola IN , No comments

Have a glass of grapefruit juice before your next cookie swap, and you may actually give away more goodies than you eat this year. When obese adults who were dieting ate half a grapefruit or drank a half cup of grapefruit juice or a half cup of water 20 minutes before each of their three daily meals, they all experience significant drops in weight, BMI and waist circumference, losing an average of 15 pounds over the course of 12 weeks, a Vanderbilt University study found. But the juice drinkers also reported less hunger compared with the water sippers. And – important for your heart – both grapefruit group (juice and whole fruit) experienced a significant jump in good HDL cholesterol, a boost that could make you healthier.

There’s Stir Fry Noodles to Wrap Up a Long Day

BY Nancy Janiola IN , 15 comments

From my daily workout routine, I jumped off doing a mega cleaning activity this afternoon that lasted me until around eight in the evening tonight. Getting rid of unnecessary clutters (old bills notices, receipts, unused broken toys and other junks) from last year took longer than I realized – made me starve a little bit since I didn’t want to leave my cleaning undone.

I took a quick shower after and immediately I scouted in my fridge for something that’s easy to prepare. In few minutes my late dinner is ready… WHEW!
Noodle recipe (pancit as we locally call it) is a popular part of my special meal plan. In fact, I love experimenting - turning ordinary instant noodles into a special one. Check out my recipes at Nancy’s Kitchen.

Earlier today while doing grocery shopping, I came across with this individually packed fresh Japanese Ramen (not our local store’s usual product), thought it might make a good stir fry noodle recipe so I grabbed few packs. A pack of 250 grams when mixed with good amounts of veggies (beans, carrots, cauliflower and stripped cabbage) plus meat and squid balls could actually make 3-4 servings.

Late dinner! I had to knock on mom’s door and wake my sister who had just then started sleeping to share my dinner with them. Both already have had theirs earlier but knowing them I knew they won’t say no to noodles as well especially when paired with some toasts. The kids would have loved it too but we chose to just let them sleep instead.

Noodles is not just an ordinary part of my meal plan, but rather a vital carbohydrate alternative for me since the dawn of my no-rice diet plan. Being my all-time favorite, it is something I can’t get over with for a lifetime!

The Reason Why I Created this Page

BY Nancy Janiola IN No comments

At some point I went so vocal about how skeptical I was to do niche blogging. Afraid that I may not be able to keep up with appropriate blog posts, I refused to give it a try. But later I realized I actually could have almost a year-worth of blog entries if only I have this page up a year earlier than I did.

I have been meaning to create a separate page where I can narrate my personal weight loss journey and this was it - the primary reason why I created this blog. I just hope though I won't chicken out in posting pictures of myself while on the process of achieving my ideal weight. I find some of my old pictures gross for real. Other times, I'd rather be a photographer than be a subject in any picture taking events.

True, that having extras beyond what's ideal really affects one's self-esteem especially women... unless you don't care. Well, I do and I will continue to do so while I can.

So what do I exactly do to lose weight? That you will find out next here on Daily Grind! ;)

Welcome to Daily Grind!

BY Nancy Janiola IN , No comments

Hello there! Whether you came here by accident or because I asked you to check my new site out, I'd like to say THANK YOU and welcome to DAILY GRIND!

It took me years to make up my mind to try niche blogging. Thanks to my PMC family for inspiring me to give in to this pleasure. I started with a travel page. It is doing well so far and now this. I actually should have launched this page way weeks ago. It's been almost three weeks since I bought and parked its own domain at Godaddy and I can't be any guiltier for wasting such precious days so finally it is here.

The header above explains what this new page will be all about. I am crossing my fingers for this though and hope I can keep up in providing valuable blog entries as I learn and experience them - one at a time.

I've also placed a social media as well as a Google Friend Connect widget at the sidebar. I know it's quite early but if you think this page is worth your time, I shall be more than glad to return that favors.

That's it for now and I hope to see you all guys around. Thanks for visiting DAILY GRIND!
